Opera 9.5 performs on CyberNet

CyberNet has an early review of the upcoming Opera 9.5 Alpha, with a lot of interesting information bits.

What comes to the new rendering engine, Opera 9.5 is running the same engine as Opera Mini 4 Beta and the Wii Internet channel browser. This is a good move from Opera just to optimize their investment on one engine, and not work on separate tracks when performance is an issue that needs to be solved in any browser. Looking at the quick performance comparison done by the reviewer, the new engine is really delivering on performance (opera a clear winner on a simple rendering test). We will certainly be seeing interesting benchmarking as Opera 9.5 matures.

A not very traditional feature is the possibility to open sites to other browsers directly from the user-interface. This is one way to tackle the compatibility issues opera has left, which maybe might be a good idea to adopt for other browsers also. Could we actually over time end into segmented browser offerings, with different concentrations...

The bookmark syncing and other features also are intriguing but I will write more of those when I have time to get the Alpha version running myself.
